What is the Schengen 90/180 rule?

The Schengen 90/180 rule lets visa-free visitors stay in the Schengen Area for up to 90 days within any rolling 180-day period. The 180-day window is not fixed: on any given day you look back over the previous 180 days and count how many you spent in the Schengen Area. If that total would exceed 90, you must wait before entering again.

How many countries are in the Schengen Area?

There are 29 Schengen member countries. Bulgaria and Romania joined most recently. Your 90 days are shared across the whole area, not counted per country, so moving between Schengen countries does not reset the clock.

How do I calculate my remaining Schengen days?

Enter every entry and exit date for the Schengen Area. The calculator looks back 180 days from any chosen date, counts the days you were present, and subtracts them from 90 to show how many days you have left. Both entry and exit days count as days of presence.

What happens if I overstay the 90/180 limit?

Overstaying can result in fines, a flag in the Schengen Information System, and an entry ban from the entire Schengen Area. With the EU Entry/Exit System, overstays are detected automatically at the border, so accurate day tracking matters more than ever.
